Our aim at Hamilton Therapy Centre is to provide a professional, confidential and safe environment where you can meet with your counsellor to address the issues you bring.

We pride ourselves on excellent practice procedures. Any queries can be directed to our Practice Manager, Claire Jones. As part of maintaining our high standards, all our counsellors have regular supervision.

DIRECTOR'S

Wally McKenzie MSocSci (Psych)

Wally has been a counsellor since 1983 with over 17 years in private practice. He works with children, adults, couples and families, provides training in the community and supervision. He has also been a visiting lecturer in the Masters in Counselling programme at Waikato and at Unitech in Auckland.

Ineke Castina BSocSci Dip Couns

In the early 1980’s, Ineke was involved with the Rape Crisis Movement. In particular she became concerned about how people who had been sexually abused as children, struggled with the long term effects as adults. This led to an interest in counselling and family therapy. Ineke has been working as a counsellor over 15 years, and has been in private practice since 1992.

Claire Jones Practice Manager

Claire is responsible for the overall running of the practice and is happy to assist you in anyway she can. She has a background in accountancy, has worked with youth, helped set up some small business ventures and enjoys contact with people.

STAFF

Lyn Wheki Administrative Assistant

Lyn joined our team in October 2007. She works along side Claire supporting her in the running of the office and brings with her excellent organisational skills. Angela works in the office 18 hours a week and is able to help with most enquiries you may have.

ASSOCIATES

Elizabeth Brown Dip Tchg, B Ed, PG Dip Couns, MNZAC

Elizabeth is passionate about supporting people to have the quality of life they want for themselves. Elizabeth works competently with a wide range of issues such as relationship counselling, grief, work place relationships, anxiety, depression, abuse, suicide ideation, family/whanau issues and more. Her professional qualifications include a Diploma in Teaching, a Degree in Education and a Post Graduate Diploma in Counselling. In the course of her work Elizabeth has worked in Community Agencies, School and University Counselling, EAP Programmes, Private Practice and Voluntary Organisations. Elizabeth's personal 'qualifications' include experiences as a mother, wife, business woman, retailer, teacher, women's refuge advocate and group facilitator.

Barbara Dromgool M.Couns, B.Soc. Sci (Hon) Psycology, MNZAC

Barbara Dromgool is in her fifties, married with a large extended family. Her professional qualifications include degrees in counselling and psychology. She is a family court and ACC approved counsellor as well as an EAP counsellor. She work competently with a wide range of issues such as grief, relationships, abuse as well as general mental health problems. Barbara also provides supervision for counsellors and to other professionals.

Carole Garratt Dip Couns, B Applied Soc. Sci (Couns), MNZAC

Carole sees counselling as a unique time and place for clients - to be heard, encouraged and supported. Her role in this is to listen with respect, seeking to understand and helping the client to clarify their situation, issues and goals. She believes that change is totally possible and will work with clients to achieve the goals they desire. Carole has experience counselling in areas of relationships - for individuals, couples and in work situations; anxiety; depression; grief and loss; midlife challenges and opportunities; addictions; issues of faith; coping with change. Her life experience includes being a wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, teacher and business woman. Her training includes; Diploma in Counselling, Bachelor of Applied Social Science (endorsed in Counselling) and further Alcohol and Other Drug studies. Carole is a member of NZAC and NZCCA, adhering to their Code of Ethics and having regular professional supervision.

ROOM USERS

From time to time we also have other folk utilise our rooms on a more casual basis. Our minimum requirements for people wanting to use our rooms are that they:

  • have a minimum of six years practical experience

  • are full members of NZAC (or equivilant) and abide by their ethics

  • hold indemnity insurance

  • have met with the Directors to discuss compatibility etc

  • have regular and ongoing supervision
